Fortunately I live in western North Carolina mountain town, where we still have LOCAL farmers with a farmer's market every Saturday morning.

Today we are seeing local farmers in desperate financial straits. They are barely making it. Even their children are working at the local fast food restaurant instead of the farm to help provide for their family.

If the farm is large, then the big food growing conglomerates like Archer Daniels or worse the CHINESE offer the farmer a price they can no longer refuse.
